That being said, if Sae were to be confirmed a lesbian in canon, I, for one, would never stop talking about it, but that would also warrant examining how Miwa Ueda views lesbians and gay people as a whole because, if canon, Sae could arguably fall into the trope of “predatory lesbian.” Again, however, because this is not canon, I will not be covering this as I’m sure a lot of it is unintentional on Miwa Ueda’s part. I also want to say that you might disagree, but lesbians and lgbt people as a whole can, for lack of a better word, headcanon characters as whatever they want them to be with little to no reasoning behind it, but part of the reason I saw Sae as a lesbian is because of certain things she does and certain experiences she has. This is, of course, not all-inclusive nor does it apply to everyone, and certain experiences might overlap with those of bi, trans, and maybe even cishet people, but because my own lesbianity (?) is extrinsically linked with who I am as a person and how I related to people when I was younger and grew up, it’s hard for me to really delegate what is just an experience of growing up and what is an experience of growing up as a closeted lesbian. So first of all I want to preface this by saying that this is very subjective and based mainly on my own experience as a lesbian, but also on the experiences of other lesbians that I’ve heard. I’m literally writing this on my phone in the middle of the student union because I’ve just been overcome with the urge to explain in depth why I think Sae Kashiwagi is a lesbian. This is literally almost three thousand words long so here’s the google doc link if youd rather read it there but.
